Liberal annualappropriations for its support have been made bythe state legislature. Complete scientific labor-atories have been equipped, and a library of 23,-339 volumes in 1898 has been collected. Theagricultural and industrial instruction, in somestates separated from the collegiate courses, iscarried on in Ohio at the State University. OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY. in the faculty and i, 150 students. Inclusive of theclass of 1897, 876 had graduated. The endow-ment of the institution was valued at $550,469,and the annual income in 1898 was $462,179. Theannual tuition fee is $15. OHIO UNIVERSITY, a co-educational, non-sectarian institution, located at Athens, was made in 1787 by the Ohio Com-pany, in its purchase contract with the UnitedStates government, for an institution of learning,which was to be maintained by the legislature ofthe new state. In 1804 the Ohio University wasestablished at Athens in compliance with theterms of this contract. Annual appropriationshave been made to the institution by the statelegislature, liberal at first but small of late. Thefirst class was graduated in 1815. In 1898 497had been graduated.
