Important aids to operating are toothed forceps (Fig. 5),and the so-called dissectors, different forms of which are shownin Fig. 6. Toothed forceps do not slip from theirhold as dissecting forceps are liable to, and will befound essential in hernia operations and a numberof others. The dissectors are very useful in exposingarteries and nerves, in enucleating glands, inseparating adhesions to the vermiform appendix,and in many other operations. Artery Forceps.—The pressure forceps of SirSpencer Wells are simply invaluable, and haveproved to be one of the most important recentadditions to the surgeons armamentarium.
