Levonelle 1500 morning-after pill in a blister pack with packaging. Levonelle is the brand name of an emergency contraceptive pill, available on prescription and over the counter to prevent an unwanted pregnancy. Levonelle 1500 is given as a single pill. Previously, the dose was given as two pills taken 12 hours apart (Levonelle-2). This was changed to taking the two pills together, and then to this single, double-strength dose (also sold as Levonelle One Step). Levonelle-2 was discontinued from November 2005. The pill must be taken a maximum of three days after unprotected sex. It contains the synthetic hormone levonorgestrel, which disrupts various stages of ovulation, fertilisation and pregnancy. Levonelle is manufactured by Schering Healthcare.
