He next practiced two years in Tonawanda,New York, and during this time organized a steamtowing company for towing boats from Buffalo tothe mouth of the Tonawanda creek. Owing to im-paired health he left the East in December, 1855,and settled at Delavan, Wisconsin, in the mercantilebusiness. Finding this ill suited to his tastes, heclosed it at the end of two years and resumed hisprofession, continuing in it till 1861, when he wascommissioned assistant surgeon of the ist Regiment. ^/jyi A^-^-^t^^
