George Frideric Handel (Born at Halle, February 23, 1685; died at London, April 14, 1759.) Extracts from this work—Pomposo, Allegro; Allegro ma non troppo;Largo; A tempo ordinario; Allegro—were performed for the first timein Boston at a concert of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Mr. Nikischconductor, December 26, 1891. The arrangement by Gustav Friedrich Kogel, who took many liber-ties with Handels score, was played at these concerts on December 28,1907, October 25, 1913, November 12, 1915. Handels wind orchestras are composed each of two oboes, bassoons, and two horns. Little is known about the history of this concerto. The date of com-position is not known. Handel hardly ever dated a manuscript. Chry-sander thinks the concerto belongs to Handels later period; that itwas written between 1740 and 1750. It was published for the first timein the edition of the German Handel Society, 1886. One does not knowwhere or when the work
