Washington, DC. 9-13-1993 President William Jefferson Clinton hosts the Palestintin Peace Accords treaty signing on the South Lawn of the White House. Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin of Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization chairman, Yasser Arafat, shake hands in a public ceremony at the White House after signing an agreement that granted limited autonomy to Palestine and laid the foundation for future peace talks. William Jefferson "Bill" Clinton is an American politician who served from 1993 to 2001 as the 42nd President of the United States. Inaugurated at age 46, he was the third-youngest president. He took office at the end of the Cold War, and was the first president from the baby boomer generation. Clinton has been described as a New Democrat. Many of his policies have been attributed to a centrist Third Way philosophy of governance. Before becoming president, he was the Governor of Arkansas for five two-year terms, serving from 1979 to 1981 and from 1983 to 1992. He was also the state's Attorney General from 1977 to 1979.
