New tanks of wood are generally shipped unlined, as,if the weather is cold, the asphaltum will be cracked inhandling the tank, and if the weather be hot the liningis likely to be found evenly spread over the bottom ofthe tank to the depth of six inches or more, while thereis nothing on the sides. Tanks have thus had to berelined so often that the custom is now to send the tank 42 MODERN ELECTRO PLATING. and the lining and let the plater line it himself. One ofthe best ways to line a tank is to stretch cheese clothall over the inside, tacking it down neatly on the bottomand all four sides; then nail a strip of wood on the upperedge of the tank, so that it projects about one-fourthinch beyond the inside edges of tank; lay the tank on.
