His health beginningto fail in 1892, he retired from theactive work of the ministry and re-turned to Warren, where he resideduntil his death. He was one of theablest clergymen of his denomination;was an eloquent and forceful hfe and character were suchas to win the love and respect of hisfellow men. He took a deep andactive interest in all matters pertain-ing to the public good. During thetrying times of the Civil War, hetook an active part in the cause of. Rev. John Harvey Moore. the Union and the abolition of slavery. He took an active interest inschool matters, serving on the school board. He represented Warren in theState legislatm-e in 1870. He contributed many articles to the various publi-cations and many of his sermons were pulilished in the clim-ch papers. He wasa member of Quaboag Lodge, F. and A. M., Warren, Mass. He was twice married: first, November 26, 1846, to Hannah Ann Mooreof Warren, Mass., who died July 24, 1876. One child, a son, was born to themin 1848, who died in infancy. He was again married October 16, 1877, toMary Bancroft of Petersham, Mass., who survives him and resides in Webster,Mass. GEN. LEWIS SAMUEL PARTRIDGE. Lewis S.
