Healso possesses a certificate of 8th April, 1654, to Captain JamesGastin (sic), of Colonel Lidcotts regiment, for an allotmentin the Barony of Atherdee. With it is a letter of the lateJ. P. Prendergast, author of the Cronvwellian Settlement ofIreland, saying that he had never seen one of these certificates. By this Patent Captain (subsequently Major) JamesGarstin was granted Braganstown in County Louth and otherlands in Meath, and William Garstin, his grand-nephew, (sonof Captain Symon Garstin, who had died in Drogheda in 1660see Wills), received the Castle and lands of Leragh, Bally-kerrin, etc., in County Westmeath.
