Prosthetic heart valve. X-ray of the chest of a patient that has had a heart valve replaced with a prosthetic valve. Heart valves control the flow of blood between chambers of the heart. Valve failure can lead to malfunctioning of the heart and death. Also seen are sternal wires (loops), which are used to close the sternum (breast bone) after open heart surgery.
