. 10 Battalion, Royal Welsh Fusiliers Lt Vernon was awarded the Military Cross for conspicuous gallantry during the Battle of the Somme in August 1916. He was killed in action near Wancourt on 18 June 1917. Lt Vernon is buried at Feuchy Chapel British Cemetery, Wancourt.
