Common chicory, Cichorium intybus with honey bee

Cichorium intybus or common chicory is the wild form of cultivated chicory. It grows on roadsides and on open uncultivated ground but makes an attractive garden plant. The bright blue flowers are most common but there are pink and white flowered varieties. The bitter leaves are used as a salad or vegetable leaf in Mediterranean cooking and as a herbal remedy for intestinal parasites.
