If you have tall plants or those which are scanty of foliage, then cover the soil either with moss, low ferns or blooming plants, such as pansies or sweet alyssum. The sight of a little patch of soil toward the center or some retired spot is not objectionable, but it is better to have an edge of green at least. If the plants are well grouped some of them will break over an edge somewhere, and if a border is added it will not be a complete one. Suggested Color Schemes. Here are a few good color schemes for plant baskets: A basket filled with adiantum plants, with a cluster of long-stemmed My Maryland roses over the handle. Use a small vase on the handle or in the soil, for the rose stems. A basket of Narcissus poeticus or marguerites with a handle decoration of pink ramblers. For a church decoration or an Easter funeral, a tall basket of callas, one or two plants for the foliage and extra cut callas set into the soil. Combine with this a group of yellow iris at the base of each side of the handle, or train a spray of yellow ramblers over one side of the handle and a cluster of genistas low at the other side. Lilacs and Easter lilies make a choice basket. Suspend a cluster of lavender chiflfon butterflies over the lilies. Trim the handle of a low basket of freesias with Chatenay roses and old- gold ribbon. Have a basket of roses in assorted oolors, looking carefully to the color harmony. It might include Tansend- schom, white ramblers, Unolp John or Golden Gate, Hermosa or Killarney roses. Small bulbous baskets are always good sellers, principally because they can be priced reasonably an^ are bright and showy.
