Now having .seen what some of thegreat dangers to the comnumity are inmilk which is not perfectly clean andfrom healthy herds, let us see what pro-tection can be given the public from thesedangers, and to do this we nnist studywhat the conditions ought to be in orderthat people may have the milk they needwithout l)eing subjected to the dangersnow accomi)anying it. A cow havingtuberculosis usually passes tubercle bacilliin her droppings, and these droppings,under the conditions pertaining in mostbarnyards, are allowed promiscuously togather on the flanks of the cows, andfrom them to drop into the milk follows, therefore, that the milk of cows, themselves quite healthy, is almostcertain to be contaminated if one tu-berculous cow be allowed to roam aboutwhere the rest of the herd takes its exer-cise. The need of cleanliness as well asof the healthiness of the cattle is shownby this illustration, but it is just as im-portant in the prevention of the contami-
