Steam-Driven Auxiliaries To supply the various steam-driven auxiliaries thereare two loop headers, one for the exciters and one forthe pumps. Both headers are connected into the main on both sides of the middle boiler headerand both are provided with valves so that exciters,boiler-feed pumps and house-service pumps can be fedfrom whichever section of the boiler plant is in service,. HAVANA POWER PLANT—GENERAL VIEW OF PLANT FROM WATER FRONT point. The screen basin is connected to the harborby a tunnel 5 ft. square. In this basin are located fourbaskets made of copper frames covered with heavy wirescreen. These are arranged so that flat screens maybe dropped in front of them and the baskets thenremoved one at a time, carrying the material they hadstrained out of the water. Any matter that lodgesagainst the flat screens is washed into the basket whenit is replaced and the flat screen removed. The screensare now lifted with a chain block which will later bereplaced by compressed air hoists. The material re-moved consists largely of jellyfish, which clog thescreens of the condenser tube if admitted, but whenexposed on land soon vanish in an odor which is any-thing but sanctified. Over the water level in the discharge canal and justbelow the cover is placed a 30-in. cast-iron water linewhich connects the inlet chambers of the three con-de
