A 1925 portrait of 'Colonel' Edward Mandell House (1858 – 1938) who was an American diplomat and advisor to President Woodrow Wilson. The title Colonel was a nickname as he never served in the military in any capacity at . He was a businessman who ran his family's business,eventually selling their cotton plantations. After investing in banking, he founded the Trinity and Brazos Valley Railway. He became advisor, supporter and close friend of New Jersey governor Woodrow Wilson in 1911, helping him win the Democratic presidential nomination the following year.
