Brass analysis. Image 3 of 7. Potassium iodide was mixed with the copper nitrate solution, which was formed when brass was added to nitric acid. This results in iodine and a white copper (I) iodide precipitate: 2Cu2+ + 4I- -> 2CuI + I2.
