A magnificent plant for decorative pur- poses, of rapid, easy growth, fully cut foliage, rivaling a rare fern. The young growing leaves are a light brown color, the tips being covered with a soft down, closely resembling raw silk, hence the name of "Silk ; In its native place it attains magnificent proportions and produces an abundance of bright, orange-colored flowers. The flowers are of a brilliant, rosy-scarlet color, of a peculiar distinct but most effective hue, about one and a •half inches in di- ameter, and are produced singly or in twos or threes from the axils of the leaves, especially to- ward the sum- mit of the stems, but so freely that a well-grown specimen ap- pears to be quite a ball of fire.
