The Market. Hot summer weather and the passing of July 4 have caused a slump in the flower business and the florists have begun to take vacations. Carnations are overabundant, but poor in quality. Eoses also are plenti- ful. Outdoor sweet peas are arriving on the market in large quantities and they are of good quality. Candidum lilies are used for all purposes at pres- ent. Giant larkspur is finding a ready sale. A few late peonies are still being marketed. America gladioli are becom- ing more plentiful, but the price is still high. Harrisii lilies are still of excel- lent quality, but there are no callas. Various Notes. The proprietor of the Rochester Flo- ral Co. gave all his employees a holiday July 4. Edwin P. Wilson and family spent July 4 at Holley, N. Y. Edwin, Jr., is spending the summer in the Adiron- dacks. J. M. Keller has returned from the Shriners' convention, held at Portland. Ore. ' Miss Jane Morris spent July 4 and 5 at Watkins Glen and Dundee, N. Y., having motored there. J. B. Keller Sons had a display at a style show at the Hotel Powers consist- ing of fountain baskets, palms, etc. H. E. Wilson and George T. Boucher had similar displays. July 7 George T. Boucher met with the various picnic committees of the Rochester Florists' Association to make final arrangoiin'nts for the outing Au- gust 5 at Fairview Beach.
