London Christmass Lights 2057
There's nothing like the sparkle of London Christmas lights to give the city an instant festive makeover. The main lights are in Oxford Street, Covent Garden, Regent Street, Westfield etc. But will they be as good as the Christmas lights in London from years gone by. The already glamourous Bond Street area has been given a glittering makeover for the Christmas season with sprays of peacock-inspired decorations. The enormous feathers perch prettily above festive shop windows, and every junction is crowned with a cylindrical spray of lights. Oxford Street will sparkle for a fifty-fifth year this Christmas as its full length will be decked with 1778 glowing white orbs. The decorations were also on display last year, but as we're already rather fond of them we don't mind that they're centre stage again. The switch-on (November 6, event starts 5pm, switch-on sometime between ) will be accompanied by a live performance from the winner of a national competition called 'Talent Starts Here', as well as Manchester boyband Rixton, Jess Glynne (who features on Clean Bandit's single 'Rather Be') and the cast of the West End's 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Cheryl Fernandez Versini (née Tweedy, previously known as Cole) will flick the switch. Regent Street will be garlanded with Christmas lights again this winter, and they're really making a day of the switch-on. The whole street will be traffic free, with activities from midday and a celebrity-laden Christmas show in the afternoon (4pm). Jamie Theakston and Emma Bunton will host the festivities and there'll be performances from Union J, Jessie Ware, the cast of 'The Jersey Boys' and 'Britain's Got Talent's The Jack Pack. What's left of Take That will switch on the lights at 5pm, after which the sky will be extra bright thanks to a fireworks display. Please note that Take That will not be performing, but guests are invited to scream at them anyway.
