An Afghan Uniform Police (AUP) officer, left, searches a man from Khoti Kheyl village at a checkpoint in the Zormat district, Afghanistan, May 7, 2013. The checkpoint was set up as part of Operation Shamshir VI, conducted by Afghan National Army soldiers with the 1st Kandak, 1st Brigade, 203rd Corps, AUP officers and Soldiers with the 1st Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment. The purpose of the operation was to deny insurgents freedom of movement in the area.
