The twosets of weights are connected pairs,each pair being joined by a lever,link, and bell crank C. The actionof gravity in the central weightscompels the sliding weights at theends of the arms to assume thepositions shown in the engraving. Had this inventor applied a lit-tle mathematical calculation to theverification of the truth or falsityof the principle of his device, hemight easily have proved that itwas a perfect balance, and savedhimself both trouble and expense.
