The Statues of London,England. October 2012 seen here: Arthur Sullivan composer within the Gilbert and Sullivan partnership. Seen opposite the riverside entrance to the Savoy Hotel which houses the Savoy Theatre where Sullivan and Gilbert's works were performed. Sir Arthur Seymour Sullivan MVO (13 May 1842 – 22 November 1900) was an English composer of Irish and Italian ancestry. He is best known for his series of 14 operatic collaborations with the dramatist W. S. Gilbert, including such enduring works as Pinafore, The Pirates of Penzance and The Mikado. Sullivan composed 23 operas, 13 major orchestral works, eight choral works and oratorios, two ballets, incidental music to several plays, and numerous hymns and other church pieces, songs, and piano and chamber pieces. The best known of his hymns and songs include "Onward Christian Soldiers" and "The Lost Chord". We pass them without so much of a glance but I decided to walk the embankment and Westminster area of London and take a good long look at the Statues of London. Most of the works are of Victorians many we have never heard of such as those who reformed the British educations system or built our drains or who gave us clean drinking water. Others are those who helped to defend this country from the Victorian era to the present day.
