He told me that this tree is faiiiy common on the Sorel Islands and known there under the French name of "Bois inconnu" or "Arbre a bois inconnu" or even "Orme Batard". For several years after I left Berthierville, in 1938, Mr. Des- champs collected the seeds to propagate this tree in the Nursery but without success. In short this species was not long ago fairly common here and there in this part of the country, in the vicinity of the River but did not seem to reproduce easily under these ; This extension of range of roughly fifty miles from St. Helen's Island, Montreal, Longueuil, etc., where it has been frequently reported, to the present stations, should not longer go unrecorded. It illustrates once more the curious interrupted distribution of this species. — HERBERT GROH, Division of Botany and Plant Pathology, Science Service, Department of Agriculture, Ottawa.
