Egon Kisch (1885-1948) was born into the German-speaking Jewish community of Prague, Czechoslovakia. He served in the Austro-Hungarian Army during World War I but deserted and took part in the unsuccessful Vienna revolution of 1918. He was an anti-war activist and famous journalist was known as "The Raging Reporter from Prague" (die Rasende Reporter). Kisch was a vocal critic of Adolf Hitler's Nazi regime and was detained in Spandau before he was expelled from Germany to his native , Memorial Plaque on house where Egon Erwin Kisch lived.
