A system of gynecology . ide, being cut open, was found to be one lateral portion of theuterus, having a central cavity lined with mucous membrane, and com- 1 Loud. Obst. Trans., 1S74, vol. xv. p. 128. 246 MALFORMATIONS OF THE FEMALE GENITALS. municating at its upper end with a pervious Fallopian tube havingattached to it a small ovary and terminating in a fimbriated extremity. There was no cervix or vagina to this portion. On the body on theright side existed a cervix and vagina, the latter without any externalopening. This side had a Fallopian tube and ovary like the this case, then, the Miillerian ducts have remained separate; theright remained imperforate at its lower end ; of the left, the lower part, which should have formed the cervix and vagina, had not been formedor had been destroyed. IV. Uterus unicornis.—The one-horned uterus (Fig. 85) is formedby the development of one of the Miillerian tubes, while the other isabsent or rudimentary. The one-horned uterus is always very long in Fig. Uterus Unicornis: LH, left horn ; XT, left tube; Lo, left ovary: LLr, left round ligament: RH,right horn; RT, right tube ; JRu, right ovary ; SLr, right round ligament. (From Schroeder.) proportion to its width, forms a curve with the concavity turned out-ward, and ends in a point from which start a Fallopian tube, an ovarianligament, and a round ligament, It has no fundus. Pregnancy in a strictly one-horned uterus does not vaiy materiallyfrom that in a normal one. If there be a rudimentary horn, bothhorns develop a decidua, and a foetus may be firmed in both or in eitherof them. If the development takes place in the rudimentary horn, there is great danger that it will not be able to develop muscular sub-stance enough for sheltering the foetus through the whole normal periodof utero-gestation. As a rule, the rudimentary horn is ruptured bythe increasing bulk of the fetus. Such cases may be taken for a rup-ture of the Fallopian tube if the observer does not bear
