Bayeux Reporters Memorial, Bayeux, Normandy, France, June 2023 The Bayeux Reporters' Memorial is a memorial built in Bayeux , Calvados . Inaugurated in 2006 , it was built in partnership with the Reporters Without Borders association and aims to keep the memory of journalists and reporters killed during military conflicts or murdered in the course of their work. It is located on Boulevard Fabian Ware, in the immediate vicinity of the British military cemetery. The idea of a monument in memory of war reporters germinated during the various editions of the Bayeux-Calvados Prize for war correspondents , created in 1994, for the 50th anniversary of the Normandy landings . The inauguration of the monument takes place onOctober 7, 2006. The first memorial to the memory of journalists, it was designed and built by landscape architect Samuel Craquelin. At the inauguration, nearly 2,000 names are inscribed on the stelae of the memorial 1 . In 2008, the Memorial won an award in the National Landscape Victory Competition 2 . In 2015, during the Republican Manifestations following the January 2015 attacks , the Bayeux demonstration, bringing together around 10,000 people, ended at the Reporters Memorial 3 . In 2016, at the initiative of the Reporters Missing in Action Foundation, which brings together families of reporters whose bodies have never been found, a monument was placed at the entrance to the Memorial.
