MAUNSELL, GEORGE-MEARES, esq. of Ballywilliam, in the county of Lime-rick, m. first, Catherine, daughter of Thomas Lloyd, esq. of Beechmount, late that shire, and has issue, Daniel-Meares. wedded, secondly, Maria-Josepha-Anne, daughter of the Stopford. Mr. Maunsell, who inherited the estates and representation of this branch of thefamily upon the demise of his father, is in the commission of the peace, and presenthigh-sheriff, for the county of Limerick. The Maunsells of Ballywilliam, are ayounger branch of the Maunsells ofPlassy. (See vol. i. p. 304.) The first of the family that settled in Ire-land was Thomas Maunsell, descended fromthe Maunsells of Margam, in Glamorgan-shire, who took up his abode at Waterfordtemp. James I. He left two sons, of whomthe elder, Richard Maunsell, entered the army inearly life, and distinguished himself by hisdefence of Macollop Castle, county of Wa-terford, in 1650, against the forces of OliverCromwell. From him descended Richard Maunsell, esq. who representedthe city of Limerick for upwards of twentyyears in parliament, from 1741 to m. first, Miss Twigg, daughter of theVenerable William Twigg, Archdeacon ofLimerick, and had one son, 1.
