Many pLmtations are entirely free frommosaic, so far as can be determined by inspection. From Donaldson-ville to New Orleans an increasing amount of infection was recordedby the inspectors. Between Lutcher and Keserve, about 75 per centof the plants in every plantation were infected. This is by far heavily infested large area in the United States. From thisregion to New Orleans and from New Orleans to the lower extremityof the river district the amount of infection ranges from 4 to 30 percent. In the Bayou Lafourche district mosaic was found in only about oneout of four fields visited and where present amounted to only 1 to 8 percent of the plants. In the Bayou Teche district no mosaic wasfound on plantation cane, although nearly 500 fields were carefullyinspected. A few cases were found in this region on cane recentlydistributed by the State Sugar Experiment Station. The imme-diate destruction of these few sources of infection is a matter of greatimportance. No mosaic whatever was found west of Bayou Techeor in Avoyelles and Rapides Parishes to the north. Thus, a veryconsiderable part of the sugar-cane lands of Louisiana is stiU freefrom the disease, and every efiort should be made to keep it free. In Georgia the worst infested region is in the vicinity of Cairo,Grady County. There the proportion of infection ranges from lessthan 1 t
