Hand of a doctor using a portable Doppler ultrasound device to check the foot (pedal) pulses in the foot of a 76 year old man with disease of the arteries (arteriopathy). There is a large blister visible on his foot. Diseased arteries in the extremities result in poor circulation of oxygen and nutrients to the tissues. This can result in tissue damage, blisters, ulcers and gangrene. Risk factors for arterial disease include smoking, diabetes, obesity, and high blood pressure.
