At the stroke oftwelve Bishop Vertin with his assistants Mr. Joseph Bosch, of Lake Linden, inmemory of his wife Mary, nee Vertin,the St. Marys altar was also donated. The beautiful whitemarble altar is a gift of the bishops fath-er, Mr. Joseph Vertin, Sr. of Hancock;the St. Josephs side altar a donation of ordered Father Langan to build a resi-dence on the northwestern corner of theCathedral. It was erected at an expenseof four thousand dollars. Rev. Joseph M. Langan, who had cometo Marquette October 14, 1888 became thefirst pastor and held the
