Eurasian Collared Dove (Streptopelia decaocto), Fuerteventura, Canary Islands

In the Canary Islands, the Eurasian Collared Dove (Streptopelia decaocto) is almost identical to, and therefore easily confused with, the introduced African Collared Dove (Streptopelia roseogrisea). This bird, photographed in hotel grounds in Tenerife appears to be a Eurasian Collared Dove, but identification is not certain. Hybrids also occur, causing even greater confusion between the two species, which are best separable by their different calls.
