Volcanologists. View of volcanologists sampling sulphur deposits around the crater of an active volcano. Elemental sulphur is deposited around volcanic vents as sulphur-containing gases condense out onto the rocks. Studying the composition of the gases and condensates may provide important clues about the activity of a volcano. This is the Mutnovsky volcano on the Kamchatka peninsula, Russia.
