Exterior of the historical place Caffé Mulassano (1907), café in Art Nouveau style in Piazza Castello square in the centre of Turin, Piedmont, Italy

In the second half of the 19th century Amilcare Mulassano, owner of the distillery Sacco known for mint, opened a liquor store in Via Nizza street and in 1907 moved it to Piazza Castello central square, under the so-called "arcades of the fair" characterized by a system of commercial furnishings of high representativeness. It was already in these early years that the Mulassano Buvette, as it was called, turns into café. In 1925 the café passed to Angela and Onorino Nebiolo, two Turin migrants, who returned home after staying a few years in Detroit. The new owners introduced two great novelties: toast and especially "tramezzino" (sandwich). The café made a pleasant reputation and trusted customers who became famous as Achille Dogliotti, Erminio Macario, Mario Soldati and many other. In 1938 the Nebiolo sold the café and with the arrival of the Second World War there was a natural decline, but in the 70s the new owner, Antonio Chessa carried out an important conservative restoration that returned the prestigious café to the city. Caffé Mulassano is now part of the "Stores and historical places of Turin", as well as being listed in the list of "Historical places of Italy".
