The beginnings of Monmouth College weremodest, and modesty has ever characterized her as an institution. In 1856 she was established by the IllinoisSynod of the United Presbyterian Church, since which time she has continued to make progress until now shestands foremost in the rank of educational institutions of our church. The untiring efforts of her faithfulpresidents have done much to make the institution what she is.
