Seborrhoeic wart treatment. Image 2 of 3. Liquid nitrogen has just been applied to this seborrhoeic wart on the nose of a 72-year-old man. The extreme cold of the liquid nitrogen (-198 degrees Celsius) freezes the wart, causing the white areas of dead tissue and the red inflamed areas. The area will heal and the dead wart tissue will drop off. Also known as seborrhoeic keratosis and basal cell papilloma, this is a common benign skin tumour. It is caused by overproduction of the skin protein keratin. This harmless type of wart is often found in the elderly, and is removed for cosmetic reasons.
