Our cypress, which grows principally in the southern \rdrt of the state, and in some of the low swamps of our north- ern parishes, is of extremely slow growth, but is the most lasting of all wood, and mider water is practically in- destructible, .'-^ome of the present-day giants of our cy])re^s t'orests have ob- tained the enormous size of forty feet in circumference, ;md are over 3,000 3ears of age. This tree has always taken a uni(|ue place among our eastern.
