Weiss counted on one squaremm. in 54 species examined i-ioo stomata, in 38 species 100-200, in 39 species200-500, in 9 species 4oa-5oo, and in 3 species 600-700 stomata. The origin ofstomata is always the result of the formation of a mother-cell, first of all by division.
