Ader-Van Rysselberghe telephone, 19th-century artwork. The telephone was developed in the 1870s, with several inventors pioneering the technology. This early model was designed by French engineer Clement Ader (1841-1925) and Belgian engineer Francois van Rysselberghe (1846-1893). This wood engraving dates from circa 1888.
