The ancient stone circle at Duddo in Northumberland, UK at sunset

The five remaining stones in the farmland of Duddo (there were originally seven) are around 4500 years old and are near the village of Etal in North Northumberland. Duddo is on a saddle of higher ground giving panoramic views all round, and exudes a very special atmosphere. The stones are sometimes referred to as "The Ladies" perhaps due to their unusual tapering shape .Their purpose may have been to mark a burial site at their centre.
