What joy it gives us when we thinkof the many old soldiers of the cross ofJesus who have gone home, and are nowat rest awaiting the resurrection morn,when they shall be called to reap theirglorious reward. He was born in the year 1782, andspent his early days in Maryland, whereyet reside many of his relatives. Intheyear 1845 he emigrated to the West, andsettled in Lee Co., 111., where he foundeda large and| flourishing church, which isnow divided into two or three differentdistricts. He was extensively known inthe brotherhood, and commanded thelove and respect of all who knew preached publicly two weeks beforehe died, and preached to the hour of hisdeath to those who visited him. He diedwith no special disease; but as a sheaffully ripe, he was gathered into the gar-ner of the Lord in the year 1860. In hisdeath the church has lost a strong postand a wise counselor.
