He was ingreat favour with John Frederick, Elector of Saxony,* and at one periodof his life was one of the magistrates of Wittenberg. He died atWeimar, on 16th October 1553, aged Another eminent painter who has been classed with Durer andCranach as a wood engraver is Hans Burgmair, who was born atAugsburg about 1473.
