Ferrocene, molecular model

Ferrocene, molecular model. In ferrocene [(C5H5)2Fe] an iron(II) atom is positioned between two parallel cyclopentadienyl anions. The rings are shown here in an antiparallel arrangement, but the rings do rotate rapidly. Ferrocene was the first metallocene, or 'sandwich compound', to be discovered. Atoms are colour-coded: iron is orange, carbon is black, hydrogen is white.
