PHILIPPINE SEA (March 15, 2019) Mineman 2nd Class Shay Severns conducts maintenance in the AN/SQQ 32 Sonar shaft inside the Avenger-class mine countermeasures ship USS Pioneer (MCM 9) as the ship completes a mine hunting training exercise. Pioneer, part of Mine Countermeasure Squadron 7, is operating in the 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with partners and serve as a ready-response platform for contingency operations.
