Nue Caught Yorimasa

According to Japanese legend, in the year 1160, the emperor Nijo had a mysterious sickness. Every night after midnight, at the zodiac time of the Bull, he was seized with pain that nothing could alleviate. Yorimasa of the Minamoto clan was sent to shoot his arrows into the dark clouds that appeared every time the emperor was seized by pain. Yorimassa did and from the cloud fell an animal with the head of a monkey, the back of a tiger, the tail of a fox, and the legs of a badger. Because the sound the animal made sounded like nue, it was called Nue.
