In 1885 I obtained the necessary legislation to establish theWyoming School. A building was erected by the Legislaturein 1886, but owing to political dissensions no means have asyet been provided for carrying on the School. In the fall of 1888 I came to Dubuque, Iowa, and openedthe Eastern Iowa School for the Deaf, in October of thesame year. The School has been supported by general contributions,fairs and exhibitions. Rooms are rented and furnished for the 4 The Eastern Iowa School. School. It is carried on as a day-school, the same as thehearing schools. During the past four years eighteen pupilshave been in attendance. During the time nearly $3,000 hasbeen raised for the benefit of the School. The purjjose of ourwork is to secure an enactment of the legislature to establishthe School in Eastern Iowa, and make provision for its svip-port. The Iowa School for the Deaf at Council Bluffs is onthe western border of the State. A large majority of thedeaf children live
