Iron and tin in sulphuric acid. Test tubes containing sulphuric acid with iron (left) and tin (right). Iron reacts vigorously with the acid to produce iron sulphate and hydrogen, which fizzes off as a gas. Tin is far less reactive than iron and will not react with sulphuric acid at room temperature. Therefore, no fizzing is seen. It will however react with hot concentrated sulphuric acid.
