Medical forceps. 18th-century journal page illustrating forceps designed to remove fungal growths from the interior surface of an infected bladder (shown in C011/2248). This account is part of a description by the French surgeon Claude Nicholas Le Cat (1700-1768), who invented a set of instruments (forceps and cannulas) to carry out such operations. This page is from volume 47 (1751-2) of the journal 'Philosophical Transactions', published by the Royal Society of London. Le Cat was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1740.
