Voyages of Verrazano and Cartier, 1524 and 1534

Giovanni da Verrazzano (1485-1528) was an Italian explorer. He is renowned as the first European to explore the Atlantic coast of North America between Florida and New Brunswick in 1524, including New York Bay and Narragansett Bay. Jacques Cartier (December 31, 1491 - September 1, 1557) was a French explorer who claimed Canada for France. He located the entrance to the St. Lawrence on his first voyage, which opened up the greatest waterway for the European penetration of North America.
