It was built in the years 1982 - 1989 and has not been completed. The change in economic conditions in Poland after 1989, the excess of electricity due to the collapse of industrial production, as well as the long-term protests of activists and negative reception from residents (including opposition against the construction of of the voivodeship inhabitants participating in the referendum) of part of the society, which intensified especially after the Chernobyl disaster, meant that the construction was stopped and the power plant was not built. Currently, in Poland, there are plans to build a new nuclear power plant, located about 30 kilometers from the village of Kartoszyno, in Slajszewo. The American company Westinghouse is to be the contractor.
